Product Description

• Composition:

  • Carbon: 0.90 - 1.20%
  • Manganese: 0.30 - 0.75%
  • Silicon: 0.10 - 0.35%
  • Phosphorus (max): 0.050%
  • Chromium: 1.00 - 1.60%
  • Sulphur (max): 0.050%

• Applications:

  • EN31 Forged Flats find use in various applications, including:
    • Taps
    • Gauges
    • Swaging dies
    • Ejector pins
    • Ball and roller bearings
    • Wear-resistant machine parts
    • Press tools

• Heat Treatment:

  • Forging: Heat slowly to 1000-1050C, thoroughly soak, and avoid forging below 850C. Cool slowly after forging.
  • Annealing: Usually supplied in the annealed condition. Re-anneal if forged or hardened.
  • Stress Relieving: Beneficial before hardening. Heat to 700C and cool in air.
  • Hardening: Heat to 800-820C, soak, and quench in oil.
  • Tempering: Temper between 150C and 300C.
