Composition:
- Carbon : 2.00% - 2.35%
- Chromium (Cr): 11.0% - 13.0%
- Silicon (Si): 0.10% - 0.60%
- Manganese (Mn): 0.10% - 0.60%
- Vanadium (V): 0.07% - 0.12%
Properties:
- Hardness: D3 Die Steel achieves a hardness of 57-58 HRC after proper heat treatment.
- Wear Resistance: It offers excellent dimensional stability and wear resistance.
- Applications: Commonly used for cutting tools (sheets up to 4 mm thickness), trimming dies, blanking dies for paper and plastics, shear cutting edges, and rotational shear edges (up to 2 mm sheet thickness).
Heat Treatment:
- Forging: Pre-heat D3 Die Steel to 900-950C, then increase to 1050-1100C. Soak until evenly warm. Final forging temperature should not be less than 900C.
- Stress Relieving: Heat to approx 600-650C after rough machining and soak well before cooling.
- Normalizing: Achieves a hardness of 55 HRC.
- Annealing: Heat gently to 900C and soak for 3-4 hours before cooling.
