Material Description:
- P20 (1.2738) is a plastic mold steel, equivalent to AISI P20+Ni tool steel.
- Nickel, chromium, and molybdenum are the alloying elements responsible for hardness and toughness.
- Specially designed for the plastic mold industry, especially for large steel mold parts.
- Supplied in the pre-hardened/quenched and tempered condition with a hardness of approximately 280320 HB.
Composition:
- Carbon : 0.350.45%.
- Manganese (Mn): 1.301.60%.
- Phosphorus (P): 0.03% max.
- Sulfur (S): 0.03% max.
- Silicon (Si): 0.200.40%.
- Chromium (Cr): 1.802.10%.
- Molybdenum (Mo): 0.150.25%.
- Nickel (Ni): 0.901.20%.
Mechanical Properties (Room Temperature):
- Yield Strength: 1080 N/mm.
- Thermal Conductivity at 100C: 33.5 W/mK.
Heat Treatment:
- Soft annealing: 710740C for about 2 to 5 hours, followed by slow cooling.
- Hardening: From 840870C, quenching in oil.
- Tempering: Slow heating to tempering temperature immediately after hardening; minimum time in furnace: 1 hour per 20 mm part thickness; tempering twice is recommended.
Applications:
- Die casting dies and injection molds.
- Synthetic plastic molds, especially large ones.
- Suitable for nitriding and chrome plating.
